Proposed Plan and Schedule

Proposed Plan

Blue Argolis will leave her home port of Gosport Portsmouth on 15th July 2006, sailing clockwise around UK, return to Portsmouth on 2nd September 2006 having completed the circumnavigation. The crew will consist of Greg, Sue, Kate and Sebastian. The passage will take a total of 50 days, covering a distance of some 2600 nautical miles (nm). Average boat speed is anticipated at 5knots, with the expectation that Blue Argolis will make 100-120nm per day. The boat will stop every 2-3 days along the route at predefined points, although this may be moderated by weather conditions.

Raising Interest

Blue Argolis will use the stops at ports/harbours and anchorages during the circumnavigation to:

• Explore the UK
• Learn about renewable and sustainable energy projects operational in the UK
• Create interest and fundraising opportunities for the project

The yacht will fly a ‘SailAid’ ‘battle flag’.

On leaving Harbours/ports of call it is envisaged that Blue Argolis will use local boating links such as the Cruising Association, the RYA, the RNLI and local yacht clubs and media coverage to encourage local boat owners to come and show their support by escorting Blue Argolis out of each key harbour as a flotilla.

To provide opportunity to gain interest outside of the boating community and to broaden the appeal of the project at the stop off, points the family will be presented with challenges/experiences or explore local opportunities relative to the objectives of the circumnavigation. It is anticipated that these stopovers will be items of education or physical challenge that will appeal to a wide range of individuals ie. All age ranges as family viewing, people with an interest in the green energy, conservation and the environment or sailing/adventure and organisations ie. Schools/educational establishments.
